19. Tea
One of the surprising facts about diabetes is that the UK does not suffer from it as much as the US does. Part of that reason may be their preference to drink tea instead of coffee. Tea contains flavonoids that are rich in antioxidants, reducing your risk of heart disease as well as lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of cancer.
Tea is also something recommended by the ADA. In fact, the ADA recommends that you drink for 5 cups of strong tea every day. It does have to be hot tea because the flavonoids break down once the tea starts to cool.
