4. Mood Changes
What many people don’t realize is just how closely linked their moods and their physiology are. Our emotions exist to motivate us and to aid in our survival and this means motivating you to seek out sources of food when you are hungry, among other things.
This is why the production of hormones to do with satiety is linked with your mood. When you absorb sugar, this results in an increase in serotonin in the brain – serotonin is the ‘feel-good hormone’. However, when sugar is not absorbed, this signal is not sent and thus you can experience heightened cortisol – the stress hormone – instead.
