5. Weight Loss
Although diabetes is often accompanied by obesity, there are some cases in which complications resulting from diabetes can lead to rapid and unhealthy weight loss. Diabetes can be associated with nerve problems, including damage to the vagus nerve that controls stomach functioning. This can lead to irregular digestion and remains of food in the stomach that can cause a lack of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.
This may lead to dramatic weight loss which can also be associated with malnutrition. Since the stomach can’t metabolize food properly, gastroparesis may cause the body to be deprived of vitamins and minerals.
