Another complication that can happen when someone has diabetes is gum disease. Diabetes can leave you prone to serious gum infections, mostly due to the fact that you have reduced blood flow thanks to your body’s inability to process glucose. You can also be more prone to dental problems.
If you have diabetes, it is absolutely vital that you brush your teeth at least twice a day – and many dentists will recommend 3 to 4 times – and get regular checkups. Your dentist is the only person that will be able to identify these problems while they are still treatable.
