5. Woman of Certain Races
There are certain racial groups that are at higher risk for developing this type of diabetes. No one is sure exactly why. It is similar to the lack of understanding of Type I diabetes. Type I diabetes happens in children most of the time, and it is due to some kind of genetic anomaly, but no one really knows why this is.
There are some genes that have been identified as having to do with insulin production, but that’s not the whole story. The bottom line is that science has identified several races that are particularly at risk. Caucasians are at the lowest risk of developing this disease, but in particular, the high-risk races include black, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American.
