Type I diabetes used to be called juvenile diabetes because it typically manifested during childhood. Currently, 5% to 10% of the population has type I diabetes, while the rest have type II. That’s why those who have type I diabetes need to get it diagnosed as soon as possible and start treatment right away. While type I diabetes is generally diagnosed early, there are some cases when a patient falls to the cracks and does not get diagnosed until later in life.
