5. Ethnicity
Your ethnicity may also be a factor. Certain ethnicities are pretty safe from getting diabetes, while other ethnicities are much more likely to get them. Medical experts aren’t entirely sure why these ethnic groups tend to get diabetes easier, but there is no doubt that they do.
They are aware of certain genes that make a particular ethnic group at a higher risk, such as the CAPN10 gene that was mentioned in the previous section, but not everything is clear. The groups that are at most risk for getting diabetes include:
African Americans
Alaska Natives
American Indians
Asian Americans
Hispanics/Latinos
Native Hawaiians
Pacific Islanders
