Genetics also plays a factor. While no one really understands the genetics of Type I diabetes, science does know a lot about Type II. There are certain genes that cause Type II diabetes and they have been identified and some of the latest treatments may be able to target those genes and partially treat the actual cause of the illness, instead of diabetics having to give themselves insulin injections.
Some of the genes that are known to cause Type II diabetes include the TCF7L2 gene, which has to do with the secretion of insulin and the production of glucose. In addition, the ABCC8 gene can be a cause. Its job is to help to regulate insulin. In addition, the CAPN10 gene is associated with the risk of this disease in Mexican-Americans
