8. Slow-carb diet
A considerably less extreme diet than either of those options is to choose a slow carb diet. A slow carb diet means that you still get to consume carbohydrates but you choose the more complex kinds.
Complex carbs release their sugars more slowly because they take longer to digest – just like fats. Therefore, just like fats, they will then release sugar at a more steady rate and avoid a sudden spike.
Slow-carb diets mean eating foods with a low GI (glycemic index). Examples include switching from regular spuds to sweet potatoes.
