Whether you eat them cooked or raw, tomatoes are an excellent food to add to your diet if you are trying to prevent the onset of pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes. These fruits (yes, tomatoes are a fruit) are loaded with lycopene, a substance that is believed to reduce the risk of various health problems, including cancer, macular degeneration, heart disease and, you guessed it, diabetes.

Tomatoes can help to reduce blood pressure levels, which can help to lower the risk of cardiovascular complications that are linked to type 2 diabetes. So, make sure to eat more tomatoes.
