4. An increased need to urinate
One of the most common symptoms of diabetes is an increased need to urinate, particularly during nighttime hours. When blood sugar levels rise, the kidneys kick into high gear in order to help the body get rid of the increased amount of glucose in the bloodstream.
The reason this happens is that the body is unable to properly break down the glucose that it has absorbed from food, which means that it isn’t transported to the cells of the body and instead, it remains trapped in the blood. Hence the increased need to urinate.
