3. Gestational diabetes
The third, the least common, and perhaps the most curious form of diabetes is gestational diabetes. It only affects pregnant women, though not all pregnant women develop it. Those who do develop this condition will no longer have it once the pregnancy is over; however, they may be more prone to developing type 2 diabetes.
This type of diabetes occurs when glucose levels are elevated during pregnancy and the body does not manufacture the necessary amount of insulin to move it to the cells of the body. It can be treated with diet and exercise or medications.
