2. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is often called the “sunshine vitamin” because the main source of this nutrient is the sunlight. In addition, it can also be provided by milk fortified with Vitamin D. Studies have shown that infants given Vitamin D have a greatly reduced risk of developing type 1 diabetes, and women given this vitamin showed an over 30% less chance of becoming Type 2 diabetics.

In the latter study, calcium was taken along with Vitamin D, since Vitamin D is primarily responsible for metabolizing calcium, which is one of the reasons it is often added to dairy products.
